Bottled Water in Sacramento Keeps Interaction in the Workplace Alive

The stereotypical water cooler is where office workers gather to engage in random chitchat, with topics ranging from the latest baseball game to changes in company policy. It also helps workers with a way to beat the dreaded mid-day slump.

Scuttlebutt
The proverbial water cooler started with 19th-century sailors’ early version of the water cooler: the scuttlebutt, a large cask with a hole cut into it for easy access to drinking water. The word is a portmanteau of “scuttle” (to sink a ship by cutting holes into it, circa 17th century) and “butt” (a large cask).
